Beverly Elaine Freeman, affectionately known as "Vel," "Granny," "Prune," and "Auntie Beverly," departed this life peacefully on May 10, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, the city of her birth, where she was welcomed into the world on December 16, 1956.

Beverly was blessed with a vibrant spirit and a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Fondly regarded as the family's unofficial historian, she had a unique ability to recall cherished moments with vivid detail, often concluding her treasured stories with a warm laugh and the familiar question, "Don't you remember that?"

Stylish, graceful, and full of personality, she delighted in dancing, dressing elegantly, and sharing her Sunday church photographs with family and friends. Her signature red hair, distinctive sense of style, and unwavering authenticity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She earned her GED in Washington, D.C., and later returned to Jacksonville, Florida, where she worked faithfully as a server.

Beverly shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, James. Whether enjoying a game of Spades or journeying through life together, theirs was a partnership marked by devotion, loyalty, and a beautiful sense of unity.

Beverly was a devoted member of King Solomon United Baptist Church, she served faithfully as a greeter and was lovingly known as the "Candy Lady," a reflection of the joy and kindness she so freely shared. She possessed a compassionate heart and was ever willing to offer encouragement, wisdom, and comfort to those in need.

She deeply cherished her family, treasured time spent with loved ones, and found joy in life's simple pleasures, including family gatherings and visits to the casino. She also held a special affection for her beloved dog, Master "P." Above all, Beverly valued love, togetherness, and the enduring strength of family bonds.

In eternal rest, Beverly is reunited with her beloved son, James Lee.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sanders Williams; her son, James Lee; her brother, Lenier Williams; and her sister, Sheila Diane Williams, sister and brothers in law, Angel Drew, Ailvin Freeman and Rounald Freeman.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband, Junior "James" Freeman; her son, "JR" Antonio Hargrove; her mother, Mary Louise Drayton; her siblings, Coley Williams Sr. (Carol), Sandra Williams, Claude Ellis (Barbara), and Toma Thornhill; sisters and brother in law, Sharon Holloway (Dan), Aileen Warren, Faylais Freeman, Anthony Freeman and Chanta Whigham; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, her devoted friend, Marvina Kirksey; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
