Ruth Lewis Black was born January 27, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Fred Lewis, Sr. and Queen Esther Blocker-Lewis Felder.

Ruth was raised by her maternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Annie J. Blocker. She was raised in a loving Christian home with her brother, Fred and five cousins. They where raised as brothers and sisters. John Bolden, Sallie Blocker-Shaw (deceased), Joe Blocker (deceased), Annette Alexander Miles and Daisy Alexander Trapp.

Ruth received her education in the public schools of Duval County. She was a graduate of New Stanton Class of 1960.

Ruth was employed by Barnett Brass an Copper Company as a Customer Service Representative from 1974-1982.

Ruth was a loving and warm person, always willing to help out and listen. She was known for her beautiful smile and lots of laughter.

Ruth felled asleep in death on February 17, 2020 at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her son, Tyrone Barnard Black, parents, Fred Lewis, Sr. and Queen Esther Blocker Lewis-Felder and her brother, Fred Lewis, Jr.

Ruth leaves to cherish her loving memory: son, Herbert Black, Jr.; devoted and loving cousins, Annette Miles (Leroy H.), John Bolden, Daisy Trapp, Evers M. Hampton, Jr. and a host of other cousins and relatives.
